History
Stan had been working as a "miscellaneous man" for years and was looking for a more focused and leaner approach to live performance. In 1995, Hack Bondo emerged to represent Stan's first foray into leading and fronting a rock 'n blues trio. The members consisted of Stan Erhart on guitar & vocals, Bob Waterman on bass, and Brad Torres on drums. Brad influenced the band name with his stories of body work gone bad ("hack bondo" jobs). The name stuck, despite efforts to find something bluesier, and unexpectedly resonated with bookers and fans.

The Hack Bondo CD was recorded, mixed and produced by Tardon Feathered (don't think about it) at Mr. Toad's Recording Studio, 5th & Bluxome, San Francisco. Rhythm tracks were recorded live in the studio as a three piece and no one got more than two or three tries to get it right. Vocals and a few of the solos were the only parts overdubbed. This was meant to be done as a cheap demo, but ended up somewhere between the lo-fi thing and whatever that other thing is, and a thousand CD's were pressed. Several Tower Records stores in San Francisco carried them.

The first Hack Bondo gig took place at Ireland's 32, SF, on Sunday, Dec. 17, 1995. Hack went on to perform gigs too numerous to count. Bar fights were considered normal, and a possible measure of how good the energy was on a particular night.

As personnel and music and venues changed, the Hack Bondo name was eventually dropped as a band name and became the production company name instead. The original inspiration behind the band continues to grow and flourish. Drop by a gig sometime to see where it's headed.
